Florida Motor Vehicle Registration & Driver's License
Vehicle registration, title, and plates must be applied for within 10 days of relocating. Proof of Florida insurance coverage is required before registering a vehicle. Call 892-8121 or 267-3066 for more information. A Florida Driver's License must be applied for or updated within 30 days of relocating. Call 892-8086 for information on obtaining a new license. Automobiles must be registered prior to obtaining licenses.
Sporting Licenses
Hunting and fishing licenses are sold by the County Tax Collector and are available at most sporting equipment dealers. All motorboats must be registered at the tax collector's office. Call 892-8121 or 267-3066 for more information.
Education
Walton County enjoys the benefits of a countywide school district that has a low student-teacher ratio of 15:1, which gives pupils individual attention. The Walton County School Board Citizen's Advisory Committee, consisting of citizens, student council presidents and educators, meets monthly to discuss county-wide issues and make recommendations that benefit the entire school district.
The Academy at Sandestin gives a unique, hands-on learning experience for high school students by combining a work-study program with the curriculum. Walton County Vocational-Technical Schools, open since 1988, offer excellent job training programs for high school students and adults. Seaside offers a unique Charter School on its premises. The school is open to the public. Okaloosa-Walton Community College provides our community with higher education with a diverse range of class offerings.

Voter Registration
Voters Registration forms can be obtained at the office of the Supervisor of Elections, 571 US Hwy 90 East in DeFuniak Springs (892-8112) and are also available at the Chamber of Commerce offices and the South Walton County Courthouse Annes, Hwy 331 in Santa Rosa Beach (267-3066).
Hurricane Information
Hurricanes are a powerful force of nature that find their way to Walton County from the Gulf of Mexico. The good news is that they usually come with a fair amount of warning. Before a hurricane, avoid the beaches or other area where you may encounter with high tides. Secure any items outdoors that may blow away in high wind conditions and turn off utilities. If you decide to stay, please give yourself plenty of time to prepare your home and family for the storm. If you do not have storm shutters, board or tape windows to protect glass from debris and strong winds. Please follow local media warnings on the weather conditions and evacuate immediately if instructed to do so. After the hurricane warning has been lifted, remain inside so local authorities can free up roadways from debris. You may need proof of residence to reenter area that are damaged.
